In Memory

Billy Davidson

William Baldwin Davidson, Jr., “Billy”, 74, passed away October 9, 2023, at home with his children by his side.  He was the son of the late Erla Rinker Davidson and William B. Davidson, Sr.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 14 from 5-7pm, at Hart’s at The Cupola and the Memorial Service, Sunday, October 15 at 4pm Northway Church (5915 Zebulon Road, Macon, GA  31210).

Billy was born and raised in Macon, GA.  He attended T.D. Tinsley Elementary School and graduated from Lanier High School in 1967.  Billy was a member of Phi Omega Beta fraternity and was nicknamed “Zero” from the Beetle Baily comic strip.  This name stayed with him over all these years and many friends don’t know him by any other name.  After graduation Billy attended Georgia Southern College.  With a very fun filled Fall Quarter, working Winter Quarter, and a war in Vietnam raging, Billy decided to enlist in the National Guard.  He completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina in 1969, then returned to college and graduated from Georgia Southern College in 1972 with a degree in Industrial Management.

During his career, Billy worked for National Distributing, co-owned ABC Package Store on Broadway in the early 80s, later he began his long tenure in the cement and concrete business, starting with Williams Brothers, Georgia Concrete and Masonry Association, Medusa, and ultimately retiring from Cemex.  Throughout these years he was able to mix the best parts of his life, the role of entertaining his customers combined with his favorite hobbies.  Many customers quickly became lifelong friends.  Billy treasured the friendships he built throughout his lifetime, each so very special to him.

Papa, as his grandchildren affectionately called him, was an outgoing people person, who always had a story to tell… and could he tell a tale!  Over the years he enjoyed playing golf, fishing, hunting and he especially cherished hosting neighbors and other friends for “Happy Hour” almost every afternoon at his home overlooking the Ocmulgee River, where he was President of the neighborhood Property Owners’ Association.

Billy was predeceased by his parents and wife, Shirley Ross Davidson.  He leaves behind his loving children – Will Davidson (Amy) and Paige Davidson Garvin (Ken) both of Macon; stepdaughters Jennifer Ross of Macon and Rachel Krause (Tom) of Atlanta; his nine grandchildren Win, Web and Whit Davidson, Mac, Marshall and Mason Garvin, Alden, Madelyn and Peyton Krause; his sisters Diana Davidson of Blairsville, and Jody Pierce (Chester) of Marietta; niece Carrie Pierce and nephew Ben Pierce both of Marietta; and his loyal Boykin Spaniel, Cairo, who was always by his side.

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to Augusta University Health, Monroe County Hospital, Pine Pointe Hospice, Mrs. Gloria, Ms. Joyce, and Ms. Lily, for all the love and support shown to Billy and his loved ones since February.
