Obituary

William “Billy” Gostin Taylor, III, 74, of Macon, GA, passed away Wednesday, August 9, 2023.  A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 27, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in the Chapel with the Reverend Andy Oxford officiating.  Billy was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 7015 Rivoli Rd, Macon, GA 31210 in Billy’s memory.

Born on January 24, 1949, in Athens, GA, Billy called Macon home. He graduated from Lanier High School in Macon, then attended ABAC College, where he developed a passion for forestry that would shape the course of his professional life. He was very proud of his time served in the National Guard.

Billy worked at Georgia Steel before spending many years as a respected forester at Roberts Timber Company in Gray, Georgia. He loved his work and was well-respected by his colleagues for his knowledge and commitment.

Outside of his professional life, Billy was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He spent many happy hours in the company of his son, Will, sharing his love for the outdoors. These moments of father-son bonding were among his most cherished memories.

Billy is survived by his sister, Jennifer Taylor McCafferty (Dan) and his loving stepdaughter, Natalie Clarke and her two children, Sophie and Calvin Clarke, along with his cousins and friends. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, William G. Taylor, Jr. and Gloria Dye Taylor, his son, William "Will" Taylor, IV, and his brother, Charles "Mac" Taylor.

In remembering Billy, we celebrate his life of adventure, love for his family and family heritage and dedication to his work. He was a man who lived life on his own terms and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
